New pools and fanciest swimming pools in Phoenix are starting to use a lot of remote technology. That means you can have all the valves that control waterfalls, spas, jets, etc, turn on while you are sitting in your home, all at the push of a button. You can move water, turn on features and heaters, turn on the spa, the lights and more.
In fact, the latest and greatest technology is one step beyond that. There are apps that allow you to use the touchpad on your phone to turn off and on pool features from anywhere your phone works. Imagine if you are on your way from a hard day at work, you can turn the spa on remotely and it’ll be ready and waiting for you when you get home.
Of course, there are disadvantages as well as advantages to this new technology. Electronics near water and chlorine always begs for trouble. Chlorine doesn’t stay dissolved in water, but also turns into a gas, which means anything metal near the swimming pool can be oxidized by the chlorine … and naturally all the circuits for these new systems are metal.
In addition, these fancy gizmos aren’t known for their longevity. On average, they last 3-5 years. The systems are also fairly technical, so most homeowners cannot fix them themselves. Last but not least, these systems are also pretty expensive and the components are expensive to repair or replace.
